Michael Bedford graduated with a B.S. in Animal Nutrition and Animal Physiology from University of Nottingham, UK in 1981. He obtained both M.S. (1985) and Ph.D. (1988) degrees in Poultry Nutrition from the University of Guelph, Canada. Two postdoctoral experiences at McGill University (1988-89) and the University of Saskatchewan (1989-91), both in Canada, sparked his interest in exogenous enzyme usage for the control of anti-nutritive effects of cereals. Dr. Bedford served as the product manager for Avizyme (Finnfeeds International, currently Danisco Animal Nutrition) and then became Manager and Director of R&D. As Director of Feed Applications Research for Syngenta Animal Nutrition, he was responsible for applied research and development of new enzyme products for animal feed and creating understanding of how to extract maximum value from their use. Currently, Dr. Bedford is responsible for coordinating research between enzyme discovery and fermentation arm and yeast production and supply of AB-Agri/Feed ingredients with market needs of AB-Vista. Dr. Bedford has edited one book, produced more than 100 refereed articles, 5 book chapters, 16 magazine articles, and 60 abstracts on the topic of feed enzymes. Dr. Bedford is undoubtedly a world-renown expert in the area of feed enzymes.
