Biol 1106 - Principles of Biology
For students majoring in the life sciences. Subjects covered include animal and plant anatomy and physiology, ecology and animal behavior. (3H, 3C)
UH 3004 - Nutrition, Brain and Behavior
That neurochemistry of the brain is not subject to influence by short term perturbations in diet had long been an accepted tenet. Research has now shown, however, that what is ingested day-to-day can influence brain neurotransmitter levels. Because all bodily funtions are ultimately controlled by the central nervous sytem, this has important implications in health and disease. Dietary influences on brain neurotransmitters can affect numerous homeostatric mechanisms and bodily funtions inlcudng sleep, obesity, depression and immunity. The role of brain neurotransmitters in behavior, and how diet may alter these functions is explored. (3L, 3C)
APSC 3304 - Embryology
Normal and teratological embryology are intesively examined from ovulation through birth. Environmental, nutritional and genetic factors affecting critical stages of embryonic development and subsequent growth are studied. (2H, 3L, 3C)
ALS/BIOL 4554 - Neurochemical Regulation
Neurochemical transmission within the vertebrate brain is examined. Emphasis will be placed on the chemical coding underlying the control of various behaviors and how these systems can be modified by various drugs or diet. (3L, 3C)
ALS 2304 - Animal Physiology and Anatomy
Anatomy and physiology of domestic animals including cell, neural, musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, and endocrine systems. (3H, 3L, 4C)
