Dr. Notter conducts research in animal breeding and genetics and serves
as chair of the Department's Graduate Education Committee. Research with
sheep focuses on genetic control of seasonal breeding and development of
selection procedures for accelerated lambing systems. Beef cattle research
deals primarily with use of theory, computer simulation and field data
to study procedures for genetic evaluation of cattle. Particular areas
of interest include development of across-breed expected progeny differences,
genetic evaluation of reproductive traits and accommodation of genotype
x environment interaction in genetic evaluation systems. He has also been
involved in study of genetic resource conservation and utilization programs
and management of endangered populations.
