Virginia Market Poultry Meat Pen State Show

fee for participants this year. You will recieve tickets to enter the fair grounds
after your registration has been recieved.

1. Each exhibitor must send a validated form PY with their entries to be eligible to exhibit at the State Fair.
2. All entries must be received by August 15, 2005.
3. All entries in this department will be subject to all general rules and regulations of the Open Class Poultry Department H except where they conflict with the special rules of this department. In which case, the special department rule will prevail. Market Poultry do not need to be Vaccinated or Pullorum Tested prior to the show.
4. Eligibility: Only bona fide Virginia 4-H Club and FFA members enrolled in poultry projects are eligible to compete in the Junior show and must be regularly enrolled in a public, private or secondary school of Virginia; must be eight (8) years old by October 1, of the prior year and not exceeding 18 years of age prior to January 1 of the current year.
5. Number of entries: A youth exhibitor may only enter 2 pens per class if they meet the weight requirements below.
6. No exhibitor entry fee for Junior exhibitors.
7. Leg bands: All birds should be leg banded before arrival at the show.
8. All youth must submit a 4-H poultry yearly plan and record book 408-042 to be eligible to compete. This books will be judged and top books rewarded ( see below). the record book can be obtained from your county extension agent or by going to the following site: 4-H Poultry Yearly Plan And Record Book.
9. All youth exhibiting meat pens must be present for the judging of their birds unless they have a written excuss approved by the superintendent at least 24 prior to the show.
10. All birds must be of good health to be accepted. All meat birds will be weighed in on arrival. After entries have been cooped, they must not be handled by anyone except the superintendent, judge or owner.
11. All birds must have been hatched, purchased and fed and cared for by the exhibitor under supervision of their Vocational Agricultural teacher or County Extension Agent from day-old until judging.
12. Three (3) Exhibitor Tickets will be issued per exhibitor.
13. All meat pen birds must be weighed in between 8:30 A.M. and 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 1. Judging of the meat pen classes will begin after setting up appropriate weight classes.
Market pens will receive the following premiums for
each Class division of 200 or 201.

The record books will be judged after the fair by a team of 3 judges. The top record book by a Junior (age 9-10), Intermediate (age 11-12) and Senior (age 13 and up) will each receive a large ribbon and an additional $5.00 premium.

The Champion and Reserve Champion Poultry Meat Pens and Class winners will be eligible to participate in the "State Fair Scholarship" Program.

STATE FAIR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Upon qualifying for and agreeing to participate in the
Scholarship Program, the entry will become the property of the Scholarship
Program and the exhibitor will be compensated for his/her entry as set
forth in the scholarship program.
