Dr. Novak is responsible for the development and implementation of various feeding and
management programs directly affecting the poultry industry (all birds) and the environment.
The extension program deals with industry issues related to nutrition and management practices of
commercial poultry, with an emphasis on meat type poultry (broilers and turkeys).
Also, contributing nutritional and management expertise to educational programs within the poultry
community is an important part of the program. Research activities complement extension activities:
applied nutrition research of commercial meat and egg-type poultry.
Specific interests are enzyme supplementation, low protein diets and other nutritional factors that
affect the overall development (early nutrition) and production of poultry.
Teaching responsibilities will be contributing nutritional information to existing courses and
the development of a poultry nutrition course.
I am also in charge of certain
FFA Quiz bowl &
4-H youth poultry events in the state of Virginia.
