Annual Hokie Harvest Sale

Hello, Everyone!

The Virginia Tech Swine Production class is proud to present two commercial boars, two confirmed pregnant gilts, and 3 bred gilts in the 15th Annual Hokie Harvest Sale. This is the fourth year that swine have been included in the sale, and we are proud to present some of our finest animals this year!

Two commercial boars, two confirmed pregnant gilts, and three bred gilts will be offered for sale this year. The Virginia Tech Swine Center herd is a psuedorabies qualified and brucellosis validated herd; please see our breeding guarantee for more information. To find more details about the herd and the animals available for sale, please visit the Swine Center Website

The Swine Sale will be by silent auction from 4:00 - 5:45 pm on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Alphin-Stuart Livestock Arena. All swine will be available for inspection the day of the sale, as well as a week beforehand. Buyer registration is from 3:00 - 7:00 pm. Be sure to try the complementary Barbeque Dinner, which will be served from 4:30 - 6:00 pm. Any questions on the day of concerning the swine sale may be directed to (540) 808-8221.

The Hokie Harvest sale will also offer 37 beef cattle and 28 sport horses this year. The sale horse demonstration will be from 3:00 - 5:00 pm in the Alphin-Stuart Arena, to be followed by the sale at 6:00 pm. The cattle sale is scheduled for 6:30 pm in the Animal Judging Pavilion.

Our class has been working hard all semester to prepare for the sale by gathering background information, pedigree data and taking photographs of each animal in order to provide any information you may request and better assist you on the day of the sale. All proceeds will support the undergraduate swine science program, allowing us to continue learning about swine production and how the industry works with practical, hands on experiences.

Thank you for showing interest in our sale stock and taking the time to learn more about the swine production program here at Virginia Tech. We have worked hard to make this show possible, and we hope that you have an enjoyable day here on campus! If you have any questions concerning the sale or the Virginia Tech swine program, please contact the Swine Center Manager, Mike Ashby, at (540) 231-6250.

Sincerely,

Virginia Tech's 2009
