As Equine Extension Specialist – Youth, the primary mission of my program is to provide leadership for and development of statewide youth equine extension education programs.  My position also includes a focus on the adult equine extension program and service as liaison with horse industry groups in support of the Virginia horse industry.  Specific areas of responsibility include: 1) organize and coordinate all state level 4-H competitive events; 2) review, update and develop subject matter, project materials and new programs in support of the 4-H Equine program; 3) provide training and direction for volunteer leaders and cultivate new leaders; 4) establish uniformity of regulations and procedures on the county, district and state level; 5) serve as a resource for Extension agents and work with equine adult organizations to further develop the horse industry in Virginia.
